The shadow is created by depth rather than by a painted line. An aluminium shadow gap ceiling profile establishes the edge of the plasterboard and maintains a controlled distance between the finished ceiling and wall.

Once the mounting flange has been fixed and finished flush with the plasterboard surface, the profile geometry defines the recessed reveal and keeps the perimeter line consistent. This usually produces a more controlled result than a gap formed entirely on site.

A ceiling shadow gap usually serves three functions:

A correctly proportioned ceiling reveal detail can create a floating-ceiling effect with or without lighting. When concealed lighting is added, reflected light can make the separation more visible. Without lighting, the recess still creates a dark architectural line through natural shadow.

Does every shadow gap ceiling need LED lighting?
